Tomorrow, Saturday 29th June, we are expecting a very good turnout at St Andrew’s Church, Holborn at 11.00am to witness the Ordination of Mike Still to the Deaconate. It is a very special moment for Mike, and also for all of us at St. Mary’s, so we hope that a good number of parishioners and friends will make the journey into town … remembering to take plenty of water with you to combat the effects of heat! Consequently, there are NO morning services or devotions at St Mary’s.
In becoming an Ordained Deacon, one of Mike’s principle roles is that of “proclaiming the Gospel” – just like the disciples and apostles of the early church. It is therefore appropriate that our celebration on Sunday commemorates the lives and witness of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Two of the most unlikely candidates to become the leaders of the church after Our Lord’s death and resurrection. Peter – who denied being a follower of Jesus at the time of his trial and crucifixion; and Paul (or Saul, as he was) whose job was very much concerned with the persecution of Christians until his conversion on the road to Damascus. Not only will we celebrate these two great apostles, but we will also be celebrating Mike’s ordination as he fulfils the role of Deacon for the first time at the 10.30am Parish Mass. Mike has very kindly provided for some refreshments after the Mass to which all are invited.
Next Saturday, 6th July, please come to our Parish Mission Planning Day starting with Mass at 10.00am. We want to hear your ideas so that we can make sure we are all “singing from the same hymnbook” as we move the Parish forward into this exciting and challenging time ahead.
