News for Pentecost Sunday

News from St Mary the Virgin, Kenton on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd May 2021: Pentecost Sunday

In the evening of the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them, “Peace be with you,” and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I am sending you.” After saying this he beathed on them and said: “Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained.”

There is no apology for featuring these words of John's Gospel to start this week's news. There is no better way of conveying the gift of the Holy Spirit which we celebrate on this Pentecost Sunday than in the words of the Good News as recorded by Saint John. Please wear “red” garments if you are coming to church on Saturday or Sunday to represent the 'tongues of fire' that are described in the Acts of the Apostles.

The Vigil Mass of Pentecost will be celebrated at 6.00pm on Saturday 22nd May.

We welcome Prebendary Fr. Jonathan Osborne on Sunday as our guest preacher. He is the Senior Chaplain to the Metropolitan Police. The Election of Churchwardens and Annual Parochial Church Meetings will take place immediately after the 10.30am Parish Mass on Sunday 23rd May. The meetings will be kept to an absolute minimum of time, merely to perform the statutory duties and agree minutes and appointments.

There is obviously increased concern at this current time with surge testing in Harrow and Brent for the Indian Variant of Covid19. Please ensure that you follow all the necessary guidance and continue to be vigilant in wearing face coverings, washing and sanitising hands and maintaining a safe social distance. Unfortunately, one of the glass doors at the entrance to the church has been smashed, so please take care when entering and leaving, and do report any malicious activity. It will take several weeks for a replacement and repair. Any contributions towards this work will be gratefully received.

Nominations for Churchwardens and PCC Members should be e-mailed to the Hon. PCC Secretary by Saturday 22nd May on with details of the Proposer and Seconder nominees. Only those whose name is entered on the Electoral Roll may nominate/second and vote.
