The Churchwardens, as the Parish representatives met with the Bishop of Edmonton and the Archdeacon of Northolt last week. They are delighted to announce the appointment of a new Incumbent for St Mary’s Kenton.
Father Edward Lewis is presently parish priest at St John’s Church Watford. St John’s is the leading Anglo-Catholic church in the south of the Diocese of St Alban’s.
After graduating from the University of Wales (degrees in Education and Theology) Father Edward trained for the priesthood at Chichester Theological College. (The present Bishop of Chichester being Principal). He was ordained for the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon and served his curacies in that Diocese. The then Archbishop of Wales appointed him to be Vicar of three parishes in Cardiganshire, in the Diocese of St.David’s. Answering a call to healthcare chaplaincy he later moved to the Diocese of Lichfield and was for twelve years Senior Chaplain at Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust. He was also Asst. Area Dean of Walsall, Chaplain to the ATC, and a Trustee of ACROSS to Lourdes. From 2000 to 2010 he was the Church of England’s national officer for Healthcare chaplaincy based at Church House Westminster. The role involved looking after the needs of the 325 wholetime Anglican chaplains and 1500 part time chaplains, working with the NHS, Dioceses, the other Christian and World Faiths. He was appointed a Justice of The Peace in 1993, awarded a Masters in Bioethics in 2007 and in 2008 was appointed a Chaplain to Her Majesty The Queen and member of the ecclesiastical household.
Commenting on his appointment Father said,’ St Mary’s Kenton is a shrine of the Anglo-Catholic faith and it will be a privilege to serve the faithful and the diverse community of Kenton. The sure foundations of daily Office and daily Mass are the springboard from which our ongoing mission will take place. We will soon be celebrating the church’s 75th anniversary and are confidently looking forward to the next 75 years. Leaving St John’s Watford will, of course, be hard as they are a most faithful and loving community. Our Holy Faith is not a hobby. Everyone has their part to play in proclaiming the Love of God in Christ Jesus Our Lord under the patronage of Our Blessed Lady herself. Queen of Heaven, pray for us.’
We look forward to welcoming Fr Edward and Katherine, his wife. The Induction and Collation will take place on Friday 20th May 2011 at 7.30pm, followed by a reception in the hall.
