News from St Mary the Virgin, Kenton for The Nativity of The Lord: Christmas 2020
We are almost there! Probably much the same thing that Mary was thinking as she and Joseph entered the walled town of Bethlehem some 2000 years ago. It has certainly been a long journey – not only through Advent, but throughout the year as we have encountered the many challenges, sorrows and disappointments that have confronted us. Many will be coping with the grief and loss of bereavement, as Christmas brings to mind happier times and celebrations with family members and loved ones who are no longer with us. There are others who will be forced to mark the coming of Our Saviour's Day alone, either due to Covid restrictions or personal circumstances; perhaps homeless or an asylum seeker or refugee?
What is true, however, is that despite everything – nothing can CANCEL Christmas! Our “usual” celebrations may be curtailed and we may be disppointed not to be meeting up with family and friends who provide good cheer at this time of year; but we must never lose sight of the “reason for the season”. God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, as a timeless gift to us. And he is with us here and now, in our joy and our disappointments; and although we may not feel that we want to celebrate, in fact the celebration WILL take place and YOU are warmly invited!
Details of the Christmas Services are attached and we hope that, even if you cannot attend in person, you will be able to tune in on YouTube and celebrate Christmas with us.
With every blessing for a Happy and Holy Christmas from all at St Mary's, Kenton.
