Children and young people are welcome at all of the worship and events at St Mary’s, Kenton. We do not relegate them to occasional ‘child-friendly’ or ‘all-age’ services or events, although some worship, events and activities are organised with them particularly in mind.
All of our children’s and young people’s activities are led by adults that have been checked via the London Diocese DBS system. We take safeguarding very seriously and you can find more information about that here.
The Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Sunday School) – 10.30am every Sunday
Children who do not wish to remain in church for the whole of the Parish Mass are welcome to join those who meet just off the nave for a children’s liturgy of the word that parallels that which is taking place in the main body of the church, exploring the themes of the readings and liturgy of the day using a variety of resources, art-work and other activities.
To emphasise that the Children’s Liturgy of the Word is part of our worship, not a creche or playgroup to keep noisy children out of church, the group leaves with a prayer after the first hymn and greeting – taking with them a candle and a book containing the readings of the day, and returns in time for the beginning of the Eucharistic Prayer.
We ask that a parent or guardian of very young children accompany them into the Hall so that the leaders are able to give their attention to the group as a whole and their planned activities.
We want everyone within our community to feel safe and supported. If you have any concerns about vulnerable people or children please read the information on our Safeguarding page and report it immediately.
