Lent Course 2010

‘Think not that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets’

The 2010 Lent course will be a series of cussion groups on the Old Testament.

Our Lord made continual reference in his preaching to the Old Testament. The Old Testament is full of references to the coming of the Messiah – and so we understand them to refer to Jesus. Jesus was a Jew for whom the Old Testament was the Scriptures – the New Testament (obviously) had not been written yet, so why is it that the Old Testament and the vast period of history that it describes is prone to being such a mystery to modern Christians?

The 2010 Lent Course will provide an overview of the Old Testament, describing the history and types of literature that make it up. It will describe how the Old Testament links to the New Testament, and discuss why it is necessary to have an understanding of the history of the Old Testament in order to appreciate the coming of Christ and the books that came to make up the New Testament.

Each session will take place after the evening Mass and last approximately an hour.
