Fr Edward writes…

From Father Edward Sunday 3 July 2011
Everyone is buzzing after the wonderful Mass of celebration for Fr John’s Golden Jubilee. They have received many messages of thanks and many compliments on the Mass and of course the amazing spread(s) provided afterwards. The celebrations continue in Trinidad Cathedral next Saturday when a congregation of over 500 are expected. I am sure we will see pictures of that occasion as well as those of our own here. (There is a news article on the Diocese of London website, as well as pics  on our own site.)

You will have read that there is a new translation of the Mass coming out in the autumn. I will write a fuller explanation on the history behind this over the summer. There are not enormous changes but we will have to study the text carefully. The immediate implication is that from Sept 4th we will be using the new translation. For Sept to December we will be using weekly sheets, which will have the new mass on them, including readings. The new translation comes into full effect on Advent Sunday; by then the Altar Missal will be available. Until then we have a basic version to help us get used to the changes (The readings for weekdays and Sunday remain unchanged).

In order to take advantage of the discounts that were available, we have already paid for an Altar Missal (£230) and five smaller Chapel Missals (£115 each). If anyone would like to give either the Altar or Chapel Missals in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving for a special anniversary or blessing, please see Trish, Ken or me.

Mr Fred Windridge has already promised to give 100 copies of the new Mass booklet (produced by ACS) in memory of his dear late wife. (He kindly gave the current ones we use).

Peter our great organist, has already been researching the settings that can accompany the new words, so the Choir will start looking at them at their practice on 13 July. More members of the choir will be warmly welcomed.

As we go into our 75th Anniversary Autumn bonanza we have a motto,” His mother said to the servants:’do whatever he tells you’”. [John 2 v 5] As we give thanks and celebrate 75 years of this great Church we must look forward as well, so as to ensure we reach 100 years and then 200 years and so on. In this church under the patronage of Our Lady, she says the same thing to us, ’do whatever he tells you’. We will have to be open to the gentle voice of The Holy Spirit…and the challenge to fill this parish and then take it all to Jesus. You will see on another leaflet that a number of Bishops and priests have agreed to join us on the Sundays (and occasional weekdays)  of the Autumn to share our anniversary- tide with us. Thanks to them.

During the Interregnum Dr Gill James co-ordinated the pew sheet with care and commitment. Thank you Gill, for taking on that extra responsibility. She has now passed this on to me. If there is anything you wish to be included on the pew sheet, please let me have it by the Friday before the Sunday. I would usually try to print it on the Saturday morning, so the news is as fresh as possible.

Please pray for me as I pray for you,
